The only way to really know is to come down and talk to an employee about what you have. We are always looking for new inventory both generally as well as the ever-illusive U.S. Liberty Gold Coin.

How to know if your coin is valuable?

Research, research, research!

If you feel lost on where to begin, start by purchasing a ‘coin value book’ and consult it for information on your coins year, make, and location of origin. It also couldn’t hurt to consult a history book, to figure out what was happening monetarily at the time of your coins circulation.

If reading about coins isn’t your thing, which, let’s face it, is absolutely understandable, Google has some incredible capabilities in finding out what your coin is worth. Take a picture of your coin and “image search” to find like items and learn the price point. If nothing comes up that’s comparable, you either have a very valuable item or a fake, but it’s all in the fun of coin collecting. Word to the wise: be wary of the prices listed on sites like eBay or estate sales, as it may be lower than the coin or coin sets actual worth.

How much can I expect to make on my valuable coin?

Like all pawnshops, Azusa Pawn is a business, which means it has to turn a profit. Someone selling a coin or coin set should expect to receive about 40-45% of the current market value. But don’t let that stop you from trying to negotiate, we are always open to talking, and it’s part of the fun of coming to any pawnshop. However, generally, 40-45% is the best a shop can do while still maintaining the profitability of its business.

Is it what’s on the outside that counts?

Yes and no, of course, the freer your coin is from flaw, the more money it will be worth. To check, use a magnifying glass and look for die cracks and missing elements. It’s important to pay special attention to the words and images. But even if your coin is not in tip-top shape, fear not, as the Azusa Pawnshop accepts a variety of coins in a variety of conditions.

Do we offer pawn loans on coins and coin sets?

Yes! Are you in need of some fast cash and have a valuable coin or coin set? Azusa Pawn can help accommodate your needs by lending you money for your coins or anything of value and keeping the item until you have the funds to come back and buy it back. So if you find yourself in a pinch and need a few extra dollars (or quite a few extra dollars for that matter) and have some rare or collectible coins sitting around collecting dust, it may be worth your time to do some research and find out just how valuable they are.
